1-Year Blogiversary + GIVEAWAY

GUESS WHAT??????? As of  February 24th, my blog is ONE YEAR OLD!!!!!!!!

Blogging has been so much fun, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it! To be honest, I don’t know where I would be in my writing journey if I had not started this blog. It has been my platform for growing as a writer, and I hope that it has helped each of you in some way!

To celebrate my 1-Year Blogiversary, I’m doing a Q&A with my blog readers and a GIVEAWAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Q&A With My Blog Readers

Last week, I told you about this Q&A and asked you to submit questions for it. The questions could be about me, writing, reading, blogging, anything! And the questions asked were great, and I can’t wait to answer them. So let’s jump right in!

1. What’s your favorite candy?

I love pretty much anything chocolate, but I also love Sour Patch Kids and Mike and Ikes.

2. What is you favorite color and why do you like it?

Probably navy, though I like most blues. I love how dark it is–it’s almost comforting. And it’s just pretty in general. 😊

3. What’s your favorite book of the Bible?

I really like 1 John. My youth group went through it last summer, and I loved it so much!

1 John 5: 11-12 (esv) : “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

4. What is the least common thing you are a fan of?

I thought about this one for a while, but I can’t think of anything I like that’s not very common. So instead, I’m going to share with you something I dislike that is very common.

I really don’t like Star Wars. So many people love it, but I think it’s SO BORING! I’ve only seen the two most recent movies all the way through, but I’ve seen parts of most of the others and don’t like them. People say I should watch all of them, since that would make me like them better, but I think that would make me dislike them even more than I already do. (For those of you who love Star Wars, please don’t be mad at me! 😅)

5. Where do you find inspiration to write?

I find a lot of writing inspiration in the things I read and watch. But I also find inspiration in nature. I often walk around outside just to find writing inspiration.

6. How many books or short stories have you written?

I’ve only finished one full draft of a novel (which I just started editing today!!!), but I’ve written numerous stories that were never completed. I did write a little story (probably when I was in second grade?) that I did finish, but I don’t know if that counts since it was only a few pages. 😅

7. How much do you write in a day, and what are some tips for writing consistently?

I write almost every day, but how much I write depends on the day. If I have a lot of inspiration (and motivation), I could write for hours! But if I’m tired and feel like I’m forcing myself to get words on paper, I might only write as little as a paragraph or two that day.

Writing consistently used to be on of my biggest writing struggles, but I’ve learned a lot of tips that have helped me. Here are two:

1) Take advantage of your extra time. It could be only ten minutes, but every minute you spend writing will add up in the end. Who knows, in ten minutes you could write an entire page!

2) Make writing a priority. Most writers tend to set writing aside, only doing it when they have extra time after their other activities. I’ve learned that it’s best to write first and do your other activities if you have time later. Prioritizing your writing will keep you from wasting time doing things that aren’t as important.

8. Do you listen to music while you write?–If so, what do you listen to?

I don’t. I’ve tried to, since I know so many writers love it, but I just can’t focus.

9. How do I choose what genre to write in when I like all of them?

Oh yes, choosing what genre to write in is hard! If I were you, I would just try all of them, going back and forth between each one you like. Eventually, you will want to choose one specific genre to work with so that you can grow and develop your craft in that area, but when trying to decide which genre is your favorite, it’s fun to go back and forth between them all until you find the one you’re most passionate about.

(I might expand on this and turn it into a blog post in the near future!)

10. What is your all time favorite book? (Or two or three or four because I know this question is hard! XD)

My favorite book of all time is the The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The other two in the trilogy were great, but they definitely don’t beat my other favorite books. Along with The Hunger Games, I love The Hobbit, and Pride and Prejudice. I could go on and on and on, but I’ll stop there. 😉

11. Would you rather read all day or write all day?

Oh, this is hard… Um… I would probably read, but only because I would be mentally drained if I wrote all day. Not to mention that the quality of my writing would go way downhill. 😅

12. What is your favorite thing about blogging?

I love being able to use my words to inspire and encourage others. It’s such a joy, and I hope I continue blogging for many years to come!

I’m giving away a paperback copy of The Girl Who Could See by Kara Swanson, a flowery journal, and a 10-count pack of gel pens!

Summary of The Girl Who Could See by Kara Swanson:

All her life Fern has been told she is blind to reality—but what if she is the only one who can truly see?

Fern Johnson is crazy. At least, that’s what the doctors have claimed since her childhood. Now nineteen, and one step away from a psych ward, Fern struggles to survive in bustling Los Angeles. Desperate to appear “normal,” she represses the young man flickering at the edge of her awareness—a blond warrior only she can see.

Tristan was Fern’s childhood imaginary hero, saving her from monsters under her bed and outside her walls. As she grew up and his secret world continued to bleed into hers, however, it only caused catastrophe. But, when the city is rocked by the unexplainable, Fern is forced to consider the possibility that this young man isn’t a hallucination after all—and that the creature who decimated his world may be coming for hers.
